While it’s easy to remember to clean your floors and countertops, there are plenty of places in the house that are forgotten for months. Grime, dust, and dirt build in these places, making your home less clean and impacting the indoor air quality. Make it a point to address these commonly missed cleaning spots.
Commonly Missed Cleaning Spots Where Germs Collect
Some of the areas we forget to clean are also some of the dirtiest spots in a home. Things that everyone touches, like light switches, doorknobs, remote controls, gaming controllers, cabinet pulls, toilet handles, and faucet handles can become breeding grounds for germs. Use a disinfectant spray or wipes to regularly clean all of these areas in your home since they are touched every day.
Behind Appliances
Every month, move appliances away from the wall and clean behind them. Pieces of food, lint, dust, dead bugs, and other debris can get stuck behind heavy appliances. Food stuck behind an oven or fridge can attract ants and other pests. The fridge coils and the dryer vent should also be vacuumed out to help prolong their lifespans.
Blinds
Blinds are no fun to clean, but if you fail to do so, they’ll collect a thick layer of dust. Some blinds can be easily removed from the window frames for deep cleaning. Carefully place the blinds in a bathtub and fill it with warm water and a small amount of dish soap. Let them soak before drying them off with a microfiber rag and reattaching them to the windows. If your blinds are not easily removable, wipe each individual blind gently with a damp microfiber rag.
Air Vents are Commonly Missed Cleaning Spots
Air vent covers are another place that’s often forgotten, but if you can complete this task once per month, you’ll improve your indoor air quality. Whether your vents are on the floor, wall, or ceiling, the covers can be removed for cleaning. Unscrew them to detach them from the vent opening and place them in the bathtub, similar to the blind-cleaning method. Fill the tub with warm water and a splash of dish soap and let them soak. While the covers are soaking, vacuum out the vent openings.
